SAINT FEUILLIEN ET SON ABBAYE Book
FRENCH VERSION – This book is available in French only.
The commemoration of the 900th anniversary of the foundation of the Abbey of Saint-Feuillien offers a unique opportunity to highlight the spiritual, economic and social influence that the monastery had on the town of Le Roeulx and its region, from its foundation in 1125 until its dissolution after the French Revolution. Illustrated and well-documented, this work retraces the history of the abbey and aims to faithfully revive the monastic architecture as well as the organisation and management established by the Premonstratensian order, which led this religious community for nearly 600 years. The study begins with the exceptional life story of the Irish monk Feuillien, originally from Connemara, a great preacher who was martyred on Rhodian soil nearly fourteen centuries ago.
About the author
Benoît Hautenauve was a teacher, school principal, diocesan inspector, and later inspector of the educational continuum. In 1997, he authored a monograph devoted to the final years of the former Abbey of Saint-Feuillien in Le Roeulx.
